The Hill family were early settlers of Texas and includes Asa Hill and James Monroe Hill fought in the Texas Revolution. Descendant George Alfred Hill greatly researched his family history and was president of Houston Oil Company. He was also as a founder of the San Jacinto Museum of History and served as president of the Houston Museum of Fine Arts. Another descendent represented in the papers, Robert T. The University of Texas at Austin (UT) opened in 1883 with eight professors, four assistants, a proctor, and 221 male and female students.
