The Hill family were early settlers of Texas and includes Asa Hill and James Monroe Hill fought in the Texas Revolution. Descendant George Alfred Hill greatly researched his family history and was president of Houston Oil Company. The University of Texas at Austin (UT) opened in 1883 with eight professors, four assistants, a proctor, and 221 male and female students.
